Comedy Superstar SUGAR SAMMY Is Making America Funny Again (Toronto, too!)

2018-11-15

Chicago, San Jose, New York, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Seattle And Toronto February & March, 2019

After an incredible year, marked by a series of prestigious events, comedy superstar Sugar Sammy is heading out across the US and Toronto in February & March of 2019, to bring them some much-needed comic relief.

This past year has seen him featured in the New York Times, the world’s most prestigious publication, as well as on the front page of its international edition; become a judge on La France a un Incroyable Talent, one of France’s most popular TV shows; perform in Malaysia and Singapore; launch two comedy specials and record a live show for Comedy Central Asia. The ratings for the second week of La France a un Incroyable Talent (the French version of America’s Got Talent) are in and they’re off the charts: 4 million viewers, an increase from last week’s viewership of 3.5 million and their best numbers since 2011. After selling over 45,000 tickets in France, Belgium & Switzerland, his residency at the Alhambra theatre in Paris continues through December. This past Saturday (November 10) he was profiled on CTV’s National newsmagazine W5, which visited with him in both Montreal and Paris. You can see the show here.

Now it’s time for him to make America and Toronto funny again with 32 shows in 6 major U.S. cities – Chicago San Jose, New York, Atlanta, Washington, D.C. & Seattle and a visit to Toronto. Still shell-shocked from the political climate in these cities, they’ll never see Sugar Sammy coming!

Ultimately, his comedy has changed the landscape of our cultural reality by confronting language and social issues and exploring the great cultural divide. He can hit on cultural, social and political themes with such charm and finesse that it allows him to push the envelope a little farther than most, especially in his famous improv moments, which allow him to interact with audiences at every one of his shows. Sugar Sammy consistently has one of the most colourful audiences wherever he performs.

His bilingual show, You’re Gonna Rire, and its French version En Français svp!, had a total of 421 sold-out performances and sold 372,000 tickets, making him the best-selling artist with a first one-man show in the history of Quebec. Then, in 2016, Sugar Sammy performed the hit bilingual show one last time in front of a record-breaking crowd of over 115,000 outdoors at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. Last year he toured Canada, hosting the Just For Laughs Comedy Tour, which visited 12 cities across the country. And then, with all this Canadian success, he promptly decamped to Paris and started over from scratch to see how far he could push French audiences. Pretty far, it turns out!

Check out one of his improv moments here.
